King & Country's : Remember the Alamo

The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna reclaimed the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing the Texian and immigrant occupiers. Santa Anna's cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians, both legal Texas settlers and illegal immigrants from the United States, to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the rebellion.

American Civil War

The American Civil War was a war fought in the United States from 1861 to 1865.The Civil War is the most studied and written about episode in U.S. history.Primarily as a result of the long-standing controversy over the enslavement of black people, war broke out in April 1861 when secessionist forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina shortly after Abraham Lincoln had been inaugurated as the President of the United States. The loyalists of the Union in the North proclaimed support for the Constitution. They faced secessionists of the Confederate States in the South, who advocated for states' rights to uphold slavery.

These unionists and confederates are from different makers (CBG Mignot, Britains and others) (The Museu Mlitar do Porto).

The US declares war on Austria-Hungary, 7 December 1917

The 1917 United States declaration of war on Austria-Hungary, officially House Joint Resolution 169, was a resolution adopted by the United States Congress declaring that a state of war existed between the United States of America and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It followed, by eight months, the earlier declaration of war against Germany that had brought the United States into World War I. Enacted on December 7, 1917 and coming into effect the same day, it was officially terminated in 1921, three years after the effective capitulation of Austria-Hungary. The photographed soldiers are produced by Duro. The cannon is made by Karl Bub in Bavaria.

The front page of the December 8, 1917 issue of the Washington Herald; news of the war declaration was overshadowed by the devastating Halifax Explosion, the third-largest non-nuclear explosion in history.

My findings from Lisbon's flea market - Mercado de Santa Clara / Feira da Ladra

This August I was in Lisbon, where I visited Lisbon's flea market Feira da Ladra  and managed to find some nice WW2 Britains Deetail soldiers. These four German infantrymen, the US The Recoiless rifle team and the British mortar team  were made in 70s/80s, and I found them in very good condition.
I added also some interesting photos from the Lisbon Military Museum, the Martime Museum and the Museu do Combatente.
