Hausser/Elastolin: Modular wooden trenches

In 30s Hausser/Elastolin produced a wide range of wooden trenches, shelters and bunkers compatible with 7.5 cm Elastolin composition soldiers. The Hausser-Elastolin Catalog 1937-1938 demonstrates around 50 different modules of the Hausser/Elastolin line of defense. The catalog also states that "Almost all parts can be continuously joined together". I photographed a section of Hausser/Elastolin tranches that was found in Switzerland. The composition soldiers are also wearing a pre-war Swiss uniform.

Lineol: Danish and Swiss troops in winter camouflage

The Lineol soldiers in snowsuits are not mentioned in Lineol catalogs. It can therefore be assumed that they were produced during the war (approx. from 1939). These figures are found more often with Danish / Swiss helmets, less often with German helmet (Stahlhelm). The painting is not different. Probably the one variant for export to Switzerland and Denmark used while the German variant was produced for domestic sales and export to Sweden. These "winter" figures are quite rare. And of course, these figures attract counterfeiters to “paint over”. An exact examination is therefore essential !

High five: staging friendship - Mussolini meets Hitler

In September 1937, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler met in Germany. Millions of ostensibly enthusiastic Germans welcomed the Duce. Here were the world's first two fascist dictators, purportedly united in solidarity, representing the ‘115 million’ Germans and Italians against the Western powers and Bolshevism. These toy soldiers were produced by Elastolin in 30s. The Adolf Hitler figurine was produced with a porcelain head !
