French Spahi Cavalry from Domage et Cie

The Spahi were a form of light Cavalry raised during the French Colonization of Central and Northern Africa in the mid-19th century. Recruited from local indigenous populations, they were originally required to provide their own horses. As such the majority of Spahi came from the upper class of tribesmen. Their name “Spahi” was derived from the Ottoman term for “army horsemen”. Spahi Regiments were commanded by French Officers, with the majority of Non-Commissioned Officers taken from the native born soldiers. Spahi were operational in Algeria and Morocco . They were deployed to several other major French military operations in both the Crimea and Vietnam in the 1850s and 1880s. The Spahi were noted for their flamboyant uniforms, based in part on the French Zouave style. The loose fitting uniforms were seen as practical, due to the intense weather variants of the desert (hot and cold). They were also known for their adaption of the Burnous Cloak. The Spahi also used the traditional French red and light Blue colors of the Cavalry. These plaster Spahi figurines were produced by DC Domage et Cie (France) in 30s/40s.

Latest treasure hunting results

These composition Cossacks were produced by Neumann in Belgium (1930s). I have also found this rare wooden model of White AM armoured car (France, 1946). The White AM armoured car was a French First World War armoured car that was built on a commercial American White Motor Company truck chassis with armoured bodies supplied by the French firm Ségur and Lorfeuvre. Between the wars the French military completely rebuilt the vehicles as the White-Laffly AMD 50 and the Laffly-Vincennes AMD 80, in these guises it served until at least 1943.

Invasion of the Soviet Union, June 1941

On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany and most of its Axis allies launched a surprise attack against the Soviet Union. The operation Barbarossa put into action Nazi Germany's ideological goal of conquering the western Soviet Union to repopulate it with Germans. By the end of the year, German troops had advanced hundreds of miles to the outskirts of Moscow. German military and civilian occupation policies led to the deaths of millions of Soviet prisoners of war and Soviet civilians.

Ernst Röhm composition figurine by Lineol

Ernst Julius Günther Röhm (28 November 1887 – 1 July 1934) was a German military officer and an early member of the Nazi Party. During the politically turbulent early days of the Third Reich, Lineol and Elastolin were careful to promote or suddenly suppress personality cameos, no doubt causing knee-jerk reactions in production and cataloguing. Ernst Röhm was murdered on the Night of the Long Knives in June 1934 after his portrait figure had been made by both Lineol and Elastolin, but both firms were able to remove his name from the catalogue before publication and the figures were sold as anonymous SA men. My Ernst Röhm figurine was produced by Lineol.
