Albin Schönherr Wooden Castle 🏰🏰🏰
This wooden castle was produced in the 1930s by Albin Schönherr of Niederlauterstein, Erzgebirge. The firm, established around 1893, was founded by Albin Schönherr after his work with the renowned toy-maker Moritz Gottschalk. Schönherr’s workshop became known for high-quality wooden toys and dolls houses, which it continued to produce until 1972, when the company was nationalised under the East German combine VERO.
The castle is here displayed with Elastolin composition figures depicting SA and SS members. While these toys were part of contemporary production, they also reflect how the political climate of 1930s Germany was mirrored in children’s playthings — offering a stark reminder of the darker chapters of German history.
